Nicole Ari Parker is an American stage and television actress who is known for her role as the fiery attorney Teri Joseph on the Showtime show Soul Food. Nikki Kodjoe became her stage name after her wedding. Her birthplace and childhood was within Baltimore Maryland. As an infant, she showed an interest in acting and won the Best Actress Award in an Maryland High School Contest. She earned her acting degree from the New York University after working for 'The Washington Ballet Company' and on stage. She received a lot of praise after her debut large performance on The Incredibly True Adventure of Two Girls in Love. This was immediately followed by other films like "Boogie Nights Spark", Blue Streak". The TV show Soul Food' was immensely appreciated. In addition, she has appeared on TV programs like Second Time Around" and Empire. In the beginning of her career, she appeared in a number of stage productions. Contractor is a Mumbai-born Indian, who lived in Nigeria from the time she was seven years old. had a lot of knowledge about world cultures and traveling at such a young stage. From the age of seven through nine, she went to boarding school in London. Her family relocated to Toronto which she stayed in through the majority of her childhood. Contractor was a successful academic throughout her time in Toronto in addition to her training as ballerina. She attended an Etobicoke School of the Arts, a specialized public arts high school where she was not just a dancer but also studied theater. Contractor was inspired to pursue acting more seriously at the age 16 after almost 10 years dancing. When she graduated from high school, Contractor accepted a scholarship at The University of Toronto to pursue a dual major in sociology and psychology. In addition, she obtained a master's degree in Theater. Contractor attended the highly-regarded Stratford Shakespeare Festival in Ontario, Canada, for Pericles. After an entire year, she was awarded the role of lead. Her performance was lauded for the 92 shows she appeared in. She was awarded the award in 2002 for the most outstanding production of the Year, as judged by Canadian Critics. She accepted the invitation to join Stratford's conservatory. This is a course that allows only four males and eight women can take an intensive 20-week program in classical theatre. Her place was guaranteed during the upcoming series of plays, and she landed Hermia's role in A Midsummer Night's Dream.
